  1. How is God’s Word comforting? Why should we consider God’s commands a comfort for our lives? How does the truth of His Word help us breathe deeper (so to speak)?

  2. What things are on the “ought to do” list of vv. 57-64? What things would you add to a list of what believers ought to do, based on what else you know from the Bible? Which of these do you personally need to begin to obey quickly? What does our obedience say about our belief?

  3. How is the Gospel a turnaround? How does your story testify to a Gospel turnaround? How can you tell it in such a way that it invites others to consider believing the Gospel, too?

  2. What do you know and believe about the Holy Spirit? How is He our “Helper”? When have you needed—and when have you seen, known, or felt—the Holy Spirit’s help in your life?

  3. How do vv. 40 and 41 resemble a Gospel prayer? Which Gospel promises have helped you the most (and when)? How do the following verses (vv. 42-48) speak to the life we are called to live, in Christ?

  1. Why should we ask the Holy Spirit to “open our eyes” when we open the Bible? What does it mean to see God’s “wondrous things,” and what can they mean for your life?

  2. How is the Psalmist—and how are you—a “resident alien on the earth”? Does that truth comfort you or challenge you, and why? How does life in the Word help us live with heaven in mind, and how is that lived out practically?

  3. How does God’s Word help us when we are “down in the dust"“? What does it mean to be strengthened through the Word? How do its truths, promises, and instructions raise us to life? Which truths, promises, or instructions come to mind when you consider this?

  1. What are some of the things the Bible says about itself? What do we believe about the Bible as the Word of God? What do we have a hard time believing or understanding? Why does getting this right—why does believing the Bible’s truth—matter?

  2. What are the “two ways”? (Compare today’s reading with Psalm 1.) How does belief, obedience, and submission result in happiness?

  3. What does it mean to “keep” God’s Word? What other verbs, actions, and practices are described in vv. 9-16? Which one(s) can you grow in during this season?
